Smashed Peas on Toast
These Smashed Peas on Toast are the perfect alternative to Avocado Toast. Not only are they more sustainable, they're higher in protein and absolutely delicious. You can whip these up in under 5 minutes, and have a delicious lunch prepared for the week. Load onto toasted sourdough and enjoy!
Ingredients
- 250 grams (or 1.5 cups) frozen garden peas cooked/thawed to room temperature
- 1.5 cloves garlic
- 1 handful fresh mint leaves chopped
- 2 tsp tahini
- 1/2 a large lemon juiced
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 tsp chilli powder optional
- 1/2 tsp salt or more, to taste
- Cracked black pepper to taste
For serving
- Toasted sourdough
- Drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
- Chilli flakes
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to a food processor and pulse for a few seconds, take the lid off and scrape down the sides and pulse again for a couple more seconds (the longer you blend, the smoother it will be, I like to preserve some texture)
- Taste test and any more seasonings to your preference.
- Load onto toasted sourdough with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of chilli flakes and devour. You can store leftovers in the fridge for upto 4 days.

The blitzer let us down this time, so next time, I’ll blitz the garlic first. We did double up on the garlic as usual, which worked well. Overall, it’s a dish we’d definitely recreate. We’ve also thought of a few meal pairings beyond sourdough toast to make it more versatile.
Best Pea dish I’ve made in a long time. I make it twice a week and mix the herbs up by using oregano and thyme as well. I use with scrambled eggs as well. 🧡💚🩷
Love this! So glad you’re enjoying it. I’m obsessed too x
Just made this, it’s great. I added hot paprika and chili crisp. Thanks, this may be my new breakfast!
Wow that sounds amazing! So glad you enjoyed! x
Hi! Are the peas raw here or they’re steamed before? Thanks
Hi, I usually pour boiled water over and leave for a couple of minutes until they have thawed. Then drain and let them cool before using 🙂
I use them instead of hummus in a falafel wrap
Amazing recipe! Quick and delicious
This recipe tastes so good! I have been making this when I want to take a break from eating eggs. I added some nutritional yeast to mine and i loved it.
