Lizi’s Digestive Health Granola Review

Lizi's Digestive Health Granola Review

I’ve always been a huge fan of Lizi’s Granola, so when they told me about their new product – ‘Digestive Health Granola‘ – I immediately had to know more!

This post is sponsored by Lizi’s and as always, all opinions expressed are completely my own. The information in this post is aimed at the general public and is not a substitute for personally tailored advice from a medical professional.

Lizi Shaw first created her granola back in 1990, focusing on minimising the sugar content whilst maintaining great flavour and texture. The result = a nutty, oaty, subtly sweet granola that I’ve loved for years! All of their range of granola are low glycaemic, suitable for vegans, non-GMO, and contain no added salt.

Their new Digestive Health Granola is SUCH an exciting, innovative idea that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on. This granola helps to support our digestive health through added probiotics and a high fibre content. A serving of 50g delivers unto 1 billion cultures, which is amazing!

What are probiotics? Probiotics are live microorganisms found mostly in yoghurt, fermented foods and supplements. Our guts naturally contain trillions of bacteria, called the microbiome, which is important for human health, affecting our immunity, digestion and mental health (1). It is important to maintain a healthy balance of bacteria, promoting the growth of ‘good’ bacteria, which may become depleted or ‘imbalanced’ due to infections or antibiotic use for example (2).

How can I support my gut health? Eating a balanced diet including plenty of diverse fruits, vegetables and wholegrains is your best bet (3), but there is also evidence to suggest that intake of probiotics may help, by improving the overall balance of bacteria – promoting the growth of good bacteria and reducing the ability of harmful bacteria to survive (1).

The package they sent also me included this ‘positive note’ inside (see above) which I believe perfectly embodies the brand’s ethos, one that radiates wellness and positivity. It was a welcome addition to my day that I rarely receive in PR packages. I will be sure to pass this message on to friends and family, and further spread the love!

The granola contains a blend of toasted oats, almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, coconut, sunflower seeds and pecans, as well as the added bacteria, Bacillus coagulans. One 50g serving of Lizi’s Digestive Heath Granola delivers over 4g of fibre, which is brilliant considering that many of us are not reaching our daily target (30g) of fibre.

For my first taste test, I made the most delicious breakfast bowl by combining the granola with creamy coconut yoghurt, juicy strawberries and desiccated coconut. The taste is a satisfying blend of crunchy oats and creamy nuttiness, which isn’t ruined by that over-sweetness that so often accompanies cereals and granolas today. Some may prefer bigger clusters of granola, but I enjoy the finer texture of Lizi’s. It’s also delicious with oat or soya milk, sprinkled over a bowl of stewed fruit, or as a topping for a fruity smoothie (like this one). It’s a perfect breakfast for anytime of the year, and the added probiotics don’t alter the taste or texture of the granola at all.

You will be able to find the new Digestive Health Granola in Sainsburys and Ocado this Summer. I highly recommend giving it a try!
