This homemade Tofu Bacon is my go-to when I'm craving a BLT. It's smoky, crispy, chewy and so delicious, as well as being a great

- 1 240g (approx) block firm tofu drained and pressed
For the marinade:
- 1/3 cup dark soy sauce
- 3 tbsp maple or agave syrup or you can use a little sugar
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp liquid smoke
- 1 tbsp tomato puree
- 1-2 tbsp water optional, to thin the marinade
Slice the tofu into thin, bacon sized strips.
Make the marinade by whisking the ingredients together, if it seems too thick you can add a little water.
Add the tofu strips to a wide container (with a lid) and pour over the marinade. Cover and shake gently so that the pieces are all covered with the marinade.
Cover and let marinade in the fridge for 30 mins - 24 hours.
Preheat the oven to 200C and line a baking tray and lay out the strips evenly, brush them with some of the excess marinade.
Bake for 12 minutes, remove and flip the pieces over then bake again for 10-15 minutes until crispy. Enjoy!
