Are After Eights Vegan?

After Eights used to be a beloved Christmas treat for us vegans, but unfortunately, the recipe was changed in 2002. The addition of butterfat by Nestle was made to prevent ‘chocolate bloom’ (a phenomenon where chocolate appears with a white-ish substance due to the separation of cocoa butter).

The bad news is that this change made After Eights no longer vegan-friendly.

The presence of butterfat unfortunately means that After Eights contain a dairy product, which is not suitable for those following a vegan diet. It’s important to note that even if the butterfat is present in small amounts, it still makes the product non-vegan.

Therefore, vegans should avoid After Eights as they now contain an animal-derived ingredient.

In summary, the inclusion of butterfat in the recipe means that After Eights are no longer vegan. Vegans should steer clear of this chocolate mint treat and be aware of potential animal-derived ingredients in other products from the same manufacturer.
